It’s the first of its kind: an award for concept art.

The Concept Art Association has selected its first winners for the Concept Art Awards, presented as part of the Lightbox Expo at the Pasadena Convention Center. The award was conceived to recognize the work of concept art illustrators and the role they play in television, film, video games, and other media. This year, winners were chosen in five categories.

In addition, the CAA selected the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award recipients: H.R. Giger (Alien), Ralph McQuarrie (Star Wars), Jean “Moebius” Giraud (TRON), Ron Cobb (Back to the Future), and Syd Mead (Blade Runner).
