Chris Pine To WONDER WOMAN

Variety reports that Chris Pine (Star Trek, Jack Ryan) is in talks to take on the role of Steve Trevor in the upcoming Wonder Woman solo flight from DC and Warner Bros.

Sources say Pine won over producers and star Gal Gadot after the studio tested a number of actors. Of course, Pine is no stranger to genre with his roles in Star Trek, Rise of the Guardians, and (if you squint just right) Just My Luck. He’s also played opposite Denzel Washington in Unstoppable and Kevin Costner in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

In comics lore, Steve Trevor was a pilot who crash-landed on the mystical island of Themyscira, sometimes called Paradise Island, where Princess Diana found him and nursed him back to health. After a contest to determine an Amazon champion, Diana followed Trevor back to “Man’s World” to aid in the fight against the Nazis during World War II.

Currently, Trevor is an intelligence officer tasked to the ARGUS organization, and acts as the liaison to the Justice League. In almost every iteration of the Wonder Woman mythos, he is the object of her affections.

Rumor had circulated that Scott Eastwood had been selected to play Trevor, and those rumors were fueled by his appearance on the Suicide Squad set. Trevor has been associated with the Suicide Squad in past stories, so it wasn’t outside the realm of possibility that he would act as a connective thread between Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. However, it appears that Eastwood was given a choice between testing for the Trevor role or taking a guaranteed part in Suicide Squad, which he chose instead.

Patty Jenkins will direct from a script by Jason Fuchs. Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters June 23, 2017.
