Variety‘s Justin Kroll reports that Arrow star Stephen Amell has just landed the role of Casey Jones in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel.

At Planet Comicon 2015, Amell had told us that he was “circling” a movie role that would have quite a bit of street cred with genre fans, even though it wasn’t a “superhero” role.  According to the report, Amell tested over the weekend, along with about a half-dozen other actors. His chemistry with returning star Megan Fox landed him the part.

The Jones character has appeared in many versions of the TMNT stories, first appearing in live action in the 1990 movie adaptation with Elias Koteas in the role. He’s a loner who becomes an ally for the turtles and a love interest for reporter April O’Neil (Fox).

Paramount is eyeing a 2016 release, which they decided before they even had locked down their cast and director. David Green is directing from a screenplay by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec.
