WONDER WOMAN Gets Ally McBeal'd.

Bleeding Cool is reporting on a first look at the script for the David E. Kelley “Wonder Woman” pilot.

Uhm.

After NBC’s eleventh-hour order for the pilot, which was originally considered too pricey for any network, the new show will move forward. And with the possibility of McG being on board for at least the pilot, this is quickly becoming a game where you need a program to keep up.

The most obvious change to the character – in an attempt to modernize her, of course – is to make Diana not one person, but three: Wonder Woman, Diana Prince, and Diana Themiscyra.

Right. Three personalities. Let’s examine:

First, there’s mousy Diana Prince, with the hair up and the glasses, in what seems to be the familiar disguise from the Lynda Carter series.

Then, there’s Diana Themiscyra, CEO of Themiscyra Industries. (uhm, what?) This persona is pretty much known by the public as Wonder Woman, just as Tony Stark is known to be Iron Man.

She still pines for Steve Trevor, and she still has the bracelets and lasso, but it seems this “Wonder Woman” is going to be similar to all of the other remakes and reboots – tongue planted in cheek with a wink at the audience as if to say, “You don’t really take this seriously, do you?”

Come on. It’s not “The Cape”. It’s Wonder Woman. Have a little respect, will ya?

Of course, it’s still way too early to determine if this reboot will go the way of “Bionic Woman” or “Knight Rider”, but if early indications point toward goofy dramedy like “Ally McBeal” (Diana apparently has a thing for Girl Power songs…), then I don’t see it lasting more than half a season.

Because fans care. And suits should, too.
