Entertainment Weekly has the announcement that “Friday Night Lights” alum Adrianne Palicki will be donning the tights and bracelets for the upcoming “Wonder Woman” series picked up in a last-minute pilot order from NBC.

Palicki, who stands at 5’11”, seems tall enough, but already the blogosphere is awash with debate on whether or not she’s the right choice.

Over the years, a Wonder Woman project has been difficult to get off the ground, mainly because the character is such a challenge to relate to modern audiences. Especially since the re-vamped Post-Crisis Diana, who’s origin is more closely attached to Greek mythology. As an “Ambassador of Peace” to man’s world, she’s been in various roles in recent years. And the challenge to make her a relevant character in the same vein as Christopher Nolan’s version of Batman (and soon, Superman) have proven a daunting challenge indeed.

But David E. Kelley – most famous for his legal dramas – seems to have the right ear of the right executive. His pilot features Diana as having three separate identities – Diana Prince, Diana Themiscyra, and Wonder Woman, who’s a vigilante in Los Angeles.

Many fans have already expressed doubt about this incarnation of the Amazon, citing the recent failures of “Bionic Woman” and “Knight Rider” (both also on NBC) as examples of how not to do it. There seems to be a lot of expectation that this “Wonder Woman” will suffer the same fate.

Time will tell.
