WITCHER Prequel Adds Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, Nightflyers) has been cast as the female lead for the Netflix prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin. Set 1,200 years before the original Netflix series, the show will focus on the story of how the original Witcher was created, as well as how the world of elves and monsters became fused with the world of men.

Reports say that Jodie will play Éile, an elite warrior who has left her clan and job as the Queen’s guardian to be a traveling musician. The conflict of the main story will force her to go back to being a warrior. The show is six episodes long, and is one of two Witcher spinoffs made by Netflix, the other being an animated film called The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, focusing on the origins of Geralt’s mentor Vesemir.

The project is being overseen by Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher book series on which the Netflix show and the award-winning video games are based. The series is set on a fictional, medieval-era location known as “the Continent”. The Witcher is about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher, and the princess Ciri, who are linked by destiny. The original Netflix series stars Freya Allan, Henry Cavill,  and Anya Chalotra.

Blood Origin is set to release in 2021, though no specific date has been given. The series is to be distributed by Netflix on their streaming service. The rest of the cast has not been announced for the show at this time.
