WEAVEWORLD to be Adapted for the CW
Clive Barker’s Weaveworld, a 1987 horror/fantasy novel, is being developed into a drama series by the CW according to Deadline.
The show is described as giving a modern makeover to the novel. For television, the plot will focus on an “app designer that teams up with a young pastry chef who has just discovered that they are destined to be guardian of a mythological realm that can be accessed through a portal in an old Savannah mansion.” Together, this dynamic duo fights evil forces that vie for control of this other realm.
Barker will executive produce with Jack Kenny (Warehouse 13) and Angela Mancuso through CBS TV Studios.
While there were attempts in the past to adapt Weaveworld for TV, current science fiction television is what made this adaptation possible. Weaveworld has long been considered one of those novels that would be too hard to adapt for TV. There would need to be a heavy reliance on special effects to pull it off well. With the success current technology has seen in other shows on a TV budget, Weaveworld will finally be given a chance at adaptation.
