Movin’ on up!

We’re getting closer to our moving day, so I thought I would give everyone an update and let you know where things stand. Because there will be some changes. Some cosmetic. Some under the hood that you won’t see.

First, the design will be dramatically different, in some ways. Since we’re moving off the WordPress platform, the template we use will also be left behind in favor of a new template available on the new server. Which means this design will be going away. But the new design incorporates many of the same features, while allowing us to add a few items that we’ve been wanting to include for some time — a headline ticker, advertiser art, more distinct sidebars, and a new background, just to name a few.

But it won’t be so different that you don’t know where anything is. The navigation is still in the same place, although it’s been tweaked some. The latest podcasts and most recent posts will still be available in the right column panel on most pages, and you’ll still be able to see the latest news there on the home page.

At the same time, we’ll have better tracking tools to know just what you read and what you don’t read, so we can deliver content that’s relevant to our audience. Plus, it will give us more information to use in our presentations to potential advertisers. So we can deliver the audience they’re looking for, while at the same time include ads that fit your interests and don’t intrude like wrestling on a sci-fi channel…

[Ahem]

If you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, tumblr, Pinterest, or Google+, nothing there will change. We’ll still have our latest headlines posting there, and we would dearly love for you to share them with your friends and fellow fans. (And we wouldn’t mind if you click a link or two every now and then…)

And if you don’t follow us on the social media, you’re cordially invited to join the party.

Sometime toward the end of next week, we’ll go dark for a couple of days to make the transition. This will give us a chance to export all of our data (and there’s a lot of data!) from this site and prep it for the new site. Once those files are in place, all we have to do is make sure everything is linked properly, and then we’ll be back up and running with SciFi4Me 3.0!

We’re very excited about it, and we hope it gets us moving in a direction that allows us to deliver the best content we can. Because we’re all fans, and we like knowing that you’re reading our articles, listening to our podcasts, and watching our shows.

We know you’re out there, and we thank you for your support.
