Trevorrow Joins Growing List of “Almost” STAR WARS Directors

Another director parted ways with the Star Wars saga today, as we learned that Colin Trevorrow has cut his ties with the final chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Lucasfilm released this statement:

Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.

When bad reviews for The Book of Henry started coming out everyone started saying, “I have a bad feeling about this.” Then, rumors started brewing when Jack Thorne, writer for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, came on board and replaced Trevorrow’s previous writing partner, Derek Connolly, and started work rewriting their script for Episode IX. I don’t think we can really be so shocked by this announcement.

Although, this statement is something we’ve already heard before like….really recently.

Remember when Phil Lord and Chris Miller parted ways with the Solo Solo project? Their public statement was this: “unfortunately our visions and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences,’ but for once this cliche is true.”

So what message are Disney and Lucasfilm trying to send here? Play by our rules…or else?

All I can say to those of you out there that may be aspiring to direct a film for the franchise…only seasoned directors need apply, otherwise, it’s a trap.
