Things to Look Forward To in 2014

It’s the beginning of the year, so lets take a look at a couple of the cool new games we can look forward to over the coming months.

From the critically acclaimed Turtle Rock Studios, (Creators of Left 4 Dead,) we can expect their new game Evolve to be released by the end of the year. Evolve is an atypical team-based shooter, with the combat focusing around four human soldiers against a single, constantly evolving enemy beast. But here’s the kicker: Both the humans and the monster are controlled by players.

Completely doing away with standard team layout, Turtle Box is breaking new ground by pitting four players against one, allowing for two completely different gaming experiences within a single game. As the human soldiers, combat emphasis will be on teamwork, managing resources, and working as a group to take down a stronger opponent. As the monster, though, gameplay will focus on keeping alive, evolving your creature down various trees to create a beast that best fits your playstyle, and taking out your enemies before they can get organized and take you down instead.

It’s too early to say if the game will be great, but so far things are looking up. If the unique combat system works, look forward to another fantastic game from Turtle Box by the end of the year. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest news as it comes out.

Another big release to look forward to is Tales From the Borderlands, a sequel to Borderlands 2. Gearbox Studios has started working with Telltale Games, developers of the award-winning Walking Dead series.

The games will be released in the episodic nature that Telltale Games are known for, as a series of short, low-cost chapters.

According to rumor, the games’ plot will focus on what happened between Borderlands 1 and 2, and more specifically Handsome Jack’s rise to power. With both development team’s histories, we can expect something great by the end of the year.

While it’s too early to tell just from announcements, based off of both developer’s legacies, we can most likely expect something great.

So, what do you think? Will you be pre-ordering these games, or will you wait to see how they look after their release?

  • Evolve looks like its could be a really, really good game, or it could be horrible. You’ve got to be sure to put all the effort into making a game like that or else it can majorly flop. I’ve seen how great TellTale games are, so I don’t doubt the mix would be great. The episodic gaming can be so horrible to wait for though.
