The Geekly with a Twist: March 2nd-8th
Okay, so in like a lion, out like a lamb? Do we count the tornadoes on Leap Day or do we count the 70 degree weather at headquarters as the indicator of how March is going to go? Well, I don’t have a crystal ball to predict the future, but I can look into the past so, without much stalling…onward with the history!
March 2nd, 1904: I love green eggs and ham… and, why not plate up a serving in honor of the day? Theodore Seuss Geisel (that is, Dr. Seuss) is born in Springfield, Massachusetts.
March 3rd, 1847: Inventor, scientist, and genius Alexander Graham Bell is born in Edinburgh, Scotland.
March 3rd, 1969: NASA launches Apollo 9 with the first flight of the Command/Service Module and the Lunar Module.
March 7th, 1876: Four days after his 29th birthday, Alexander Graham Bell receives the patent for his telephone.
March 7th, 2009: NASA launches the Kepler spacecraft on a mission to explore extrasolar planets in the Milky Way galaxy in order to discover Earth-sized planets.
March 8th, 1618: 390 years and 364 days before the spacecraft bearing his name, Johannes Kepler discovers the third law of planetary motion (“The square of the orbital period of a planet is directly proportional to the cube of the semi-major axis of its orbit.”).
So, in honor of the book that first made the Dr. famous, let’s Twist with the oddity I like to call I Saw it on Mulberry Street.
- 2 oz Mulberry juice, extract, or liqueur (the recipe takes about 2 months to prepare)
- 1 oz dark rum
- 1 oz vodka
- Dash of orange juice
Mix ingredients in a shaker with ice and pour into a prepared cocktail glass. In order to properly prepare the glass in true Mulberry Street fashion, rim the glass with edible confetti and stripe the glass with mulberry syrup. Garnish with an orange wheel, a little flag, and more edible confetti for a truly unbelievable drink!

It’s got Christopher Lloyd, Billy Boyd, and Sean Astin (as well as many other names with some star power behind them that are a little less geeky) rounding out a wonderful cast of fair neophytes. Completely independent, the only indicator is the short list on the credits and the fact that it’s not Jennifer Lawrence (or someone of similar explosive popularity) playing Dorothy.
The soundtrack (which is an awesome thing put together by Miss Billie Westbrook herself Eliza Swenson) is available on iTunes and the movie is currently travelling the country. Check out their website or their Facebook for more specific details on dates for events near you!
