The Geekly with a Twist: April 6th-12th

It’s been a long week here, but it’s finally Friday! Yup, you know what that means…your favoritecolumn…none other than the day of the Geekly! So, without too much stalling…onward with the history!

April 6th, 1937: One of the guests of honor at Planet Comicon, Billy Dee Williams is born in New York City.

April 8th, 1954: Known for many roles, (he is probably best known in the SciFi community for his role as Jonathan Kent in Smallville) John Schneider is born in Mount Kisco, New York.

April 8th, 1954: Buttercup, Jenny, this woman is iconic in American film!  Robin Wright is born in Dallas, Texas.

April 8th, 1973: The woman behind ex-demon Anya as well as Oona from the quirky SciFi comedy TiMER, Emma Caulfield is born in San Diego.

April 8th, 1981: Someone who previously held my contempt for his role as Gambit (who has recently redeemed himself as John Carter), Taylor Kitsch is born in British Columbia.

April 9th, 1959: Nicknamed the “Mercury Seven,” NASA announces the selection of the first seven astronauts (Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, Wally Schirra, and Deke Slayton).

April 12th, 1961: Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin becomes the first man to orbit the Earth.

April 12th, 1971: Yet another Buffy alum, Nicholas Brendon is born in Los Angeles.

So, with so many Buffy birthdays in this week and last, I think we need to Twist a la Slayer… I’m particularly fond of this recipes from the Stay Alive Forums entitled a Willow Rose.

  • 1 part London gin
  • 2 parts Raspberry vodka
  • Lemonade

Mix gin and vodka in a highball glass with ice and fill with lemonade.  Garnish with anything that makes you feel a little witchy.

And, of course, what sort of Geekly would this be without its own Garnish?  For this week, I’ve got to share the new geek anthem roaming the internet (something you’ve all hopefully already seen). Courtesy of Geek and Sundry, the new music video from The Guild.

Until later…geek on!
