The Eve of GRIMM

Episode 507 “Eve of Destruction”

We picked up the story exactly where we left it. Which made sense, the mid season finale ended with a sort of cliffhanger.

Mini recap time: Nick (David Giuntoli) leaves everyone at the warehouse to question Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) about “Juliette” (Bitsie Tulloch). Who then sneaks out to confront Meisner (Damien Puckler) about “Juliette”. Who later calls Nick to set up a meeting with “Juliette”. Got that? Good.

Xavier (Bob Clendenin) faces interrogation at the Spice Shop. Then the police in our group put Xavier in a holding cell while they set up protective services. That backfires, he’s killed by a Black Claw member who got himself jailed next to Xavier. Oh, and he woged in front of the the officer responding to the ruckus.

Nick and Adalind (Claire Coffee) kiss. In real life that might not be a huge thing, one kiss. In Grimm, at this time, between these two, it’s huge. And something I was really hoping wasn’t going to happen. There is nothing in their history that should lead to a romantic relationship. She says as much. But Nick…I think Nick lied. He said that he and Juliette had a chance for a new start and didn’t take it. I thought Nick and Juliette were working on their relationship. As I remember it, they were doing well.

The Wesen Council is gunned down by one of their own members. Somehow he just happened to have two large automatic guns in the meeting room. A meeting where they are discussing the attacks by Black Claw. If the Council knows there is this sort of threat, how did they not check everyone coming in for weapons?

Rosalee (Bree Turner) had a call into the Wesen Council to report the attack of the Black Claw on the Wesen owned businesses. She get’s a return call from Alexander (Spencer Conway), her contact with Council. He made it out but now he’s on the run for his life.

And last, Nick meets “Juliette” — now Eve — in a restaurant. She is obviously different than the Juliette of before. She doesn’t give Nick much information. She gives her new name, Eve and does tell him that she remembers everything. Oh, and she kills a man on her way out — telekinetically. Have to admit, that’s pretty bad ass.

Nick gets a call from Meisner following the restaurant mess saying that the meeting and fight was a test and he passed. Hm, question. Is that a good thing?

Since the beginning, Grimm has been foreshadowing something big coming. There was the episode with the queen bee, as she was dying she said that something was coming. I kept thinking we’d learn what it was. Maybe one of the other storylines was the payoff for that. I don’t know, it didn’t feel like we got the big payoff. I was never sure if it was about the Royals, the keys, or something else all together. Are we really just now getting payoff for something set up around five years ago? That’s a long time to keep your audience waiting.

I have a feeling that the writers may be painting themselves into a corner. I’m having trouble articulating what I mean. So, bear with me as I try to get across what I’m getting at. Grimm has been about our main characters solving crimes and dealing with their soap opera like relationships. But a war is a whole different thing. That’s huge violence with out a mystery to solve. I don’t know that war is what Grimm fans signed up for. If this war changes the whole feeling and setup of the world of Grimm, will fans stay with the show?

I’m not clear whether this is a war of Wesen on Wesen or Black Claw Wesen on non Wesen? If Grimm is supposed to have any resemblance to the real world how does that work if there are raging monsters running amok all over the world? No, really how? I have no idea how that could work.

There’s been a lot of different elements setup in the front end of this season. OK, most have been seen in tiny bits in the promos. They haven’t been in the episodes. But still, if the stuff is in the promos, it’s been promised. I’m pretty sure that’s in the standard what audiences expect from their shows manual.

Grimm, don’t let us down. We’re looking forward to a whole lot of story in the backend of this season. Your Grimmsters are looking forward to the rest of this season.
