The CW’s VIXEN Gets Her Voice
Rich Sands at TV Guide has this blurb in the upcoming issue revolving around San Diego Comic-Con, which reveals the casting for the CW animated series Vixen.
According to the description of the show, CSI: Miami star Megalyn Echikunwoke will voice Mari McCabe, a resident of Detroit who inherits a magical totem from her parents. The totem allows her to channel the powers and abilities of any animal on Earth.
Producer Marc Guggenheim says, “This is essentially a coming-of-age story.” The six-episode series will tell a complete 30-minute story that will live on the CW’s Seed online network. Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell will make appearances as their live-action heroes, the Flash and Green Arrow, respectively, along with Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak) and Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon).
Vixen will take place in Detroit, and will serve to introduce magic to the “Flarrowverse”, as some are calling it. Says Guggenheim, “I love that we get to expand the universe. We started off with Arrow, which is very grounded, then The Flash introduced the concept of superpowers to this universe, and now Vixen will introduce the concept of magic.”
It’s probably no accident, either, that Echikunwoke bears a striking physical resemblance to the character. This will no doubt make it easier for the character to transition into live action appearances should the animated venture pay off.
