Syfy Orders Three Shows to Pilot
Following the renewal of Dark Matter and Killjoys and the order of Prototype and Krypton pilots, Syfy has ordered pilots for three shows in development at Universal Cable Productions.
The Machine — based on the film from 2013, this show will explore a world transformed by artificial intelligence. Six characters with interwoven stories will be at the core of the series. Each of them holds the key to humanity’s salvation or destruction in a world where man is in conflict with technology.
The film’s director, Caradog James, will executive produce with Red & Black Films. Film producer John Giwa-Amu will also serve as an executive producer.
The Haunted — supernatural horror-drama telling the story of four siblings who reunite after the death of their parents. As they reunite and learn to deal with each other again, they find themselves facing ghosts from their pasts — literally. There are ghosts in this machine.
Happy! — based on the Image Comics graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson. The story follows Nick Sax, a corrupt alcoholic cop turned hit man who encounters murder and betrayal at Christmas. When a hit goes wrong, Nick finds himself with a bullet in his side, cops and mobsters out to get him, and a child killer in a Santa suit running amok. To complicate things (or not) he has his life changed by a tiny blue horse called Happy.
In recent years, Syfy has been making strides to move programming back to its science fiction core, a move that has been well received by those who were disaffected by the network’s branding change and programming dilution that came in 2009. Currently, the channel boasts several genre shows — The Magicians, Killjoys, The Expanse, Dark Matter, Wynonna Earp, 12 Monkeys, and Z Nation — and will be adding more with Van Helsing and horror anthology Channel Zero along with Krypton and Prototype.
And currently, not a wrestling show in sight…
