Syfy Announces New Lobo Spinoff

Season 2 of Syfy’s Krypton just kicked off yesterday, and its first spinoff series has been announced. The alien bounty hunter Lobo will receive his own television series. This might seem a little fast, considering Lobo’s first appearance in Krypton was in Season 2’s first episode, but this could also show how much faith the network has in this rendition of the character.

This new project is simply titled Lobo. Little is known about the project, other than the fact that the executive producer of Krypton, Cameron Welsh, will write the script and be the executive producer for the show. No information as to whether Emmett J. Scanlan shall reprise the role in this spinoff, or if the show will follow some of the classic Lobo stories in the comics, like when he hunted down the other last survivor of his race so that he could hold the title of being the “last Czarnian”.

Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in June 1983, and has been a fan favorite character ever since. His role in Krypton as an alien bounty hunter was the same as his role in the comics.

While Krypton marks Lobo’s first live action adventure, the bounty hunter has appeared on screen before in animated form on both Superman: The Animated Series and Young Justice. A theatrical movie was in development for a number of years, with Dwayne Johnson the favorite to play the Czarnian, but that project never materialized.

While information for this new project may be scarce, Krypton has proven to be a hit with television audiences. If Syfy can bring that same level of quality to this new show, then we could have another hit superhero show in the making.
