Roundup 7.29.12 – PARANORMAN

ParaNorman PosterComing this fall from the studio that brought you Coraline is ParaNorman, a stop-motion tale about a boy who sees dead people, and that’s actually a good thing for Norman and his friends and family. Sometimes it’s the freaks who are the real heroes, because they aren’t the same as everybody else.

The cast includes John Goodman, Jeremy Shada (Finn on Adventure Time) and Tempestt Bledsoe, and seems like the perfect Halloween flick, despite the fact that it’s actually slotted for August 17.

Some really amazing posters have been done by Mondo, because… that’s what Mondo does. I’ve been a fan of this company’s elegant, minimalist, vintage/retro-look (and expensive!) posters ever since discovering them on Ain’t It Cool News. This time, Mondo has been putting up ParaNorman posters in various cities, and people are free to just walk off with them and take them home! The looks are as different as the artists who created them. Gorgeous. Well… as gorgeous as zombies can get I suppose?

A glossy “making of” book is also available, very appealing to stop-motion geeks like myself. The Art and Making of ParaNorman by Jed Alger features conceptual art, details about how the puppets were made, and a look at the new technologies being used to create these miniature works of art and the world they live in.  Available from Chronicle Books.
