Our Strategy: What’s News Now and What’s News Later?

After spending a morning sharing a few links over on our Facebook page, I thought I’d take a moment and do a think piece on how it gets determined what’s news and what’s stuff we just share in general. It’s a grey area, really. There’s no method, except to say that there are several categories into which “news” falls, and we try to get as much out as we can (and that’s hopefully going to increase…).

A lot of times, we’ll get press releases from studios or networks, and some of it will be news that needs to get out RIGHT NOW, as in breaking news that might make the Internet explode. Things like Gotham casting Bruce Wayne, or Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman, or IDW publishing an adaptation of “The City on the Edge of Forever” for the first time ever. These are news items that need to get out as quickly as possible.

There are other stories — like the first (maybe) image of Ben Affleck in the Batsuit — that should get out quickly, but fall into the “unconfirmed/rumor” category. In this day and age when a lot of news gets quoted and then debunked as farce or parody, we make every effort to make sure our stories are credible and factual. As much as we can. Now, some things can’t be confirmed, but they still need to get out in a timely manner. So we’re going to try and do better about posting this kind of thing on our Facebook page, where we’d like you to comment as freely as you like. That’s why social media is useful — for us to be social. To discuss things around the watercooler, as it were.

And then there are things that fit better into Week in Review — stories that are generally newsworthy, but might make for a very short article and could fit in better with related stories — such as we have on the latest episode (#10 — which you can see here).

It’s still a work in progress, and it’s likely to change as we get bigger and more efficient and add more people to our staff of correspondents. As always, if you have a news tip, you can contact us and let us know. Or if you want to join the team, we’ll talk about that, too! This is SciFi4Me — and the “Me” in that …

is you.

In the meantime, here’s a sleepy puppy:
