New CYBERPUNK 2077 Livestream Announced

Ahead of the highly anticipated video game Cyberpunk 2077 release, game developer CD Projekt Red will host a livestream event August 10th.

The livestream will detail new weapons, the game’s soundtrack, and “lifepaths” for your character. In the tabletop RPG, lifepath’s were essentially your character background. You would roll a die and create a backstory based on random events that happened to you based on what you rolled. The “lifepath system” in 2077 is much more forgiving, though. For one thing, you can’t get killed in the middle of character creation, forcing you to re-roll. These lifepaths also determine the starting mission of the game. For instance, selecting Street Kid throws you into a mission where you do a dirty job to get out of debt, while Corporate has you fail a corporate hit attempt — a failure that costs you your life, no less.

So far, three lifepaths have been announced: Corporate, a lifepath where you have a stable, corporate job; Street Kid, a lifepath where you lived off of the streets your whole life; and Nomad, a class that was in the original Cyberpunk games, a lifepath where you live like the freaks from Mad Max, wandering deserts with biker gangs and criminals. Currently, it is uncertain if these lifepaths give you any boosts, but some speculate that Nomad might give you the ability to receive extra medical supplies and shelter from NPC’s, given that that was how the Nomad class in the originals worked.

Made by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in 2012. The game will be a First Person Shooter/RPG hybrid, combining first-person gunplay with traditional RPG classes and story choices. The game will star Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix).  The game is based off of the tabletop RPG made by R. Talsorian Games (who also made the somewhat obscure Dragon Ball Z tabletop RPG). Designed by Michael Alyn Pondsmith, the game takes place in a dystopian future where corporations rule the world, and the average person is just another number on a slip of paper, rather than an individual.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on November 2077, for Xbox One, PS4, Google Stadia, Xbox Series X, and Windows. A new Cyberpunk tabletop game titled Cyberpunk Red is slated to come out in 2020, though no exact date has been given.
