Netflix Rounds Out Cast for New Space Drama AWAY

Netflix announced the final cast for its new Space Drama Series Away. The cast now includes Talietha Bateman, Ato Essandoh, Mark Ivanir, Ray Panthaki and Vivian Wu.

Hillary Swank and Josh Charles will star in this space drama, which will focus on Swank’s astronaut character, Emma Green, leaving her husband Matt (Charles) and her daughter to lead an international space crew on a dangerous mission to Mars.

Bateman, who has been seen in the film Annabelle Creation, will play the role of Alexis Logan, Emma’s daughter. Essandoh, who most notably had roles in Blue Bloods and the Netflix series Altered Carbon, will play Kwesi, a British botanist and the ship’s only first-time astronaut. Ivanir portrays Misha, a veteran cosmonaut and the ship’s head engineer. Panthaki has been cast in the role of Ram, the ship’s medic and second in command. Wu plays Yu, the ship’s geologist and chemist.

Andrew Hinderaker has created a story centered on hope and humanity, focusing on the need for unity when trying to achieve the impossible. The story is loosely based on Chris Jones’ Esquire article with the same title.

Ed Zwick, director of films such as The Last Samurai and Glory, is set to direct the first episode of the series.

Netflix has yet to set a release date for the series.
