Netflix Begins To Heal THE DARK CRYSTAL With These Voices
Over a year ago, Netflix sent fans of Jim Henson’s classic fantasy film, The Dark Crystal, into a frenzy over the announcement of a 10-episode prequel series called The Dark Crystal: Age of Rebellion. Today they have released the voice cast and it is most impressive.
Taron Egerton (Kingsman films), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) will voice the three lead Gelfling heroes of Rian, Brea, and Deet.
Unlike Jen and Kira, they are not the only Gelfling on Thra. Joining Egerton, Taylor-Joy, an Emmanuel are:

Balancing out the good and the evil on Thra are The Skeksis and Mystics:

- Ralph Ineson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs)

The character of Aughra will be voiced by Donna Kimball (The Happytime Murders), replacing Frank Oz, who voiced her in the film. Additional characters will voiced by puppeteers from the production, including Alice Dinnean, Louise Gold, Neil Sterenberg, and Victor Yerrid.
Along with the cast, they also released pictures of the three Gelfling.
The Jim Henson Company will produce. Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) is directing and executive producing with Henson’s Blanca Lista. Rita Peruggi is producing and Jeffery Addis, Will Mathews, and Javier Grillo-Marxuach lead the writing team. Returning to Thra is Brian Froud who was the creative designer for both The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance takes place “many years” before the movie. “We find the world of Thra is dying. At the heart of Thra is the Crystal of Truth, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the Land. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.”
Between the state-of-the-art creatures created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Brian Froud’s history of the work he has done in the past with The Jim Henson Company, Leterrier’s storytelling, and the quality of Netflix produced shows, and now with this cast, it appears this series has the promise to make Henson proud.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will appear on Netflix in 2019.
