It’s official; NBC has picked up its action/adventure drama Revolution for a full season commitment for the 2012-13 season, according to Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment.

“We’re impressed with the imagination and creative direction of the entire team on Revolution, not to mention the immediately strong response we got from the audience,” said Salke in NBC’s October 2 press release. “Thanks to J.J. Abrams, Eric Kripke, Jon Favreau, and everyone at Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television for their dedication to making a truly unique series.”

According to NBC, Revolution debuted on September 17 with the highest 18-49 rating (4.1) for a premiering drama on any network in three years (since ABC’s V on October 3, 2009, 5.2) and the highest for a premiering NBC drama in five years (since Bionic Woman, September 26, 2007, 5.7). In the two weeks since then, Revolution took on premiering competition from ABC’s Castle and CBS’s Hawaii Five-0 and led that competition in every key demographic both weeks.

NBC is certainly pleased with viewers’ response to the new show, the show’s sponsors are happy, and the cast and crew are happy. That only leaves keeping the fans happy.

Revolution stars Tracy Spiridakos as Charlie Matheson (Being Human), Graham Rogers as her brother Danny (Memphis Beat) and Billy Burke as their uncle Miles (The Twilight Saga).

The series also stars Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Zak Orth (Romeo + Juliet), JD Pardo (A Cinderella Story), David Lyons (The Cape), Maria Howell (The Blind Side), Daniealla Alonso (Friday Night Lights), Tim Guinee (The Good Wife) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost). Kripke (Supernatural), Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) and Bryan Burk (Fringe, Lost) serve as executive producers, and Jon Favreau (Iron Man 1 & 2) serves as co-executive producer.

  • Awesome. Hope this is the new unique genre show, considering SUPERNATURAL sucks after Kripke’s departure and FRINGE ends after this Season.

    • IMHO at the start of the season REVOLUTION looks generic enough to attract a wide audience looking for something different that is not dinos or time travel or vampire-related. 😀 I suppose it all depends on what kind of mythology the writers create and if it can sustain interest in the long run. So far they haven’t revealed anything that would keep me coming back breathlessly for more…but that may change. 😉 I’m gonna stick around to see, anyway.

      • I agree. The biggest attraction for this to me, is Eric Kripke.
SUPERNATURAL wasn’t ‘awesome’ in its debut, and seemed like a very simplistic formula, which expanded over time to include a severely intricate and complicated mythology (sometimes to its detriment)

If the same process has been applied to REVOLUTION, then I’m in and will definitely be watching its evolu– progress!
