Michael Chiklis Joins GOTHAM
The latest casting news for Gotham has Michael Chiklis – no stranger to superheroes – moving into Gotham City as Captain Nathaniel Barnes.
TVLine quotes the show producers describing Barnes like “…a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of Gotham’s police force. He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law. For Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon… but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.”
Chiklis has played in the comic book sandbox before, first as Ben “The Thing” Grimm in the two Fantastic Four movies from Fox, and then as the patriarch Jim Powell in ABC’s No Ordinary Family.
There’s no mention as to whether this means Barnes is taking over for Captain Sarah Essen, or if the two will be working together as leaders of different divisions at the GCPD. IMDb lists both in the season premiere, along with Victoria Cartagena (Montoya’s back?), but that’s no guarantee it’s what we’ll see in the actual episode.
Season two of Gotham begins Monday, Sept. 21 at 8/7c on Fox.
