Marvel Finds Their CLOAK & DAGGER

Deadline is reporting that Freeform’s entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, now has lead actors in place.

Disney alum Olivia Holt (Kickin’ ItI Didn’t Do It) will play Tandy Bowen opposite Aubrey Joseph’s Tyrone Johnson in the story of two teens with powers — she can throw light daggers, he can engulf people and objects in darkness — who are drawn together in a romantic entanglement made more complicated by the differences in their backgrounds.

The first episode will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, with Joe Pokaski set as showrunner.

“The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy,” said Pokaski. “When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page.  We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”

Pokaski will executive produce with Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, and Jim Chory. The show, which has been in development for nearly five years now, is a co-production of Marvel Studios and ABC Signature Studios, which means it’s likely the show will at least loosely connect with the rest of the MCU.

“Marvel is delighted to have found our “Cloak & Dagger,” said Loeb. “Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”
