Martin Freeman Enlists in Marvel’s CIVIL WAR
Sherlock and Hobbit star Martin Freeman has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War in an undisclosed role.
Marvel made the announcement today, but kept details to a minimum as to what part he’ll play in the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speculation on discussion boards range from Everett Ross to Molecule Man to an MCU version of Norman Osborn.
“From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in ‘The Office,’ Martin’s range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said in the announcement. “We couldn’t be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Freeman had the lead in The Hobbit trilogy, and he plays opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock. Cumberbatch was also in The Hobbit as the dragon Smaug, and he will be stepping into the MCU himself as Doctor Strange.
