LOST IN SPACE Remake Casts Judy Robinson
TVLine reports that the Netflix remake of Lost In Space has its first cast member: actress Taylor Russell will play Judy Robinson.
The Falling Skies alum is the first to be added to the cast of the 10-episode series, which will air in 2018. The show was ordered to series back in June, but little news has been shared since then. Writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are handling script duties, and Zack Estrin will serve as showrunner.
“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content, back in June when the show was first announced. “The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”
Lost in Space follows the Robinson family and their robot after the vile Dr. Smith sabotages their ship, leaving them stranded in the vastness of space. The original series aired from 1965 to 1968 on CBS — which had originally rejected Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek — and was produced by Irwin Allen. A 1998 movie adaptation followed.
Russell’s other notable role was as Lark Voorhies in Lifetime’s Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story.
