Netflix has officially announced that Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will be renewed for a second season. They made the announcement via their social media channels as well as on the show’s official accounts. The YouTube video below, narrated by Patrick Warburton who plays Lemony Snicket in the show, instructs viewers where to go.

Once fans determined they needed to visit www.vastlyfrighteningdecision.com, they were met with a few gifs and a letter from Snicket himself stating that “set builders, costume designers and trauma specialists are snapping into action” on the new season.

Daniel Handler, who wrote the book series under the pen name Lemony Snicket, also wrote and executive produced the TV series, which was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best New Media Television Series.

The eight-episode first season followed the first four books of the 13-book series. According to Handler, the second season is set to follow the next five books and include 10 episodes, then the third season, which has not been guaranteed yet, would finish off the rest of the book series.

Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf (Joe Lederer/Netflix)

The series tells the story of the Baudelaire orphans, played by Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, and Presley Smith, who go from guardian to guardian all the while being chased by Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) and his devious schemes in order to get the fortune their parents left them.

The first season is currently streaming on Netflix and was released on January 13, so the renewal announcement comes exactly two months after the show’s debut. Speculation suggests the next season will probably be released around January of 2018. Handler told Entertainment Weekly that they are trying to film everything as quickly as possible to curb the aging of the show’s young stars, though, so it’s possible for an earlier release, as well.

Kayce Taylor

Kayce Taylor nurtured a healthy love of video games from an early age. Growing up in small-town Missouri offered plenty of free time to play the likes of Kirby, Mario (of all varieties), 007, and more. Though she was raised in a Star Wars family, her husband showed her the undeniable power of Star Trek, and she's been a fan of both ever since. If she were only allowed to watch one show for the rest of her life, she would pick The Office without hesitation. She recently began exploring photography, and even more recently went to her first comicon. She loves sci-fi/fantasy and dreams of going to Hogwarts and/or meeting a Shadowhunter.
