JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie is Back On

Well, it was only a matter of time before we’d get word about this.

Variety is reporting that back when The Avengers was still in production – and thus before the massive success at the box office – Warner Brothers hired Will Beall (Gangster Squad) to write a new Justice League script. Beall – who’s also penning the Lethal Weapon reboot and Logan’s Run – seems to be the creative darling of the hour (sorry, Orci & Kurtzman…).

Beall hasn’t turned in a draft yet, which could just mean he’s been too busy with everything else on his plate, but since it’s been a year now, odds are Warner Brothers is actually acknowledging his involvement with an eye toward a delivery date for a first draft.

WB tried this a few years ago, with a project to be helmed by George Miller. But that quickly fell apart because of a number of issues. And it didn’t help that most (if not all) of the cast were relative unknowns at the time (and some still are).

Now that Christopher Nolan’s take on Batman is done, will Man of Steel be DC’s answer to Iron Man, in that it begins the DC Movie Universe (because we all know Green Lantern didn’t… and shouldn’t…)? Is DC planning to attempt the same thing Marvel has accomplished? Or are they planning to work backwards, with the team movie coming first as a launching point for all the solo films to follow?

But…

Which Justice League will it be?

Will this be the Justice League we’ve known for decades? The heirs to the Justice Society? Or will this be the New 52 variety? Especially since there’s nothing to say the New 52 would last long enough to still be around when these movies hit theaters.

Time will tell. And we’ll be watching.
