J.A.R.V.I.S. Leads to Vision — Bettany Gets New Role

Variety reports that Paul Bettany will be taking on the role of Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Bettany, who has spent his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S., will now play the android who was — in the comics universe — created by Ultron to go against Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man. Ultron itself was a creation of Pym’s, which was a heavy part of his story over the years. In the MCU, however, it looks likely that Ultron, along with J.A.R.V.I.S. and the Vision, are all derivatives of Stark Industries technology.

A while back we shared a report from Unleash the Fanboy, in which storyboards for Avengers seemed to lead toward J.A.R.V.I.S. being corrupted by Loki, thus leading to the artificial intelligence developing into Ultron for the next movie.

Since then, James Spader was cast as the voice of Ultron, casting some doubt on the possible connection between J.A.R.V.I.S. and the new villain. But with Bettany playing the Vision (and one would assume he’s still playing J.A.R.V.I.S.), then the connection between all three AI constructs remains in play.

The report also notes that production will begin next month.

With the addition of the Vision to the roster, what will that mean for Agent Coulson’s relationship with a certain cellist? Hmm?
