Gillian Anderson Joins AMERICAN GODS
Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) is the latest addition to the Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. The network announced that Anderson will be playing Media, mouthpiece of the New Gods.
In the source material, Media takes the form of iconic celebrities, acting as the “public face” and sales rep for the New Gods. She lives off the attention — and in some cases, worship — that people give to their laptops, smartphones, televisions … anything with a screen on which she can appear.
Anderson is an Emmy®, Golden Globe®and SAG® Award-winning actress, and recently reprised her role as Dana Scully on Fox’s revival of The X-Files (see our recaps here). She’s currently in production of the third and final season of The Fall.
She’s also a published author, with her second novel A Dream of Ice released by Simon & Schuster in December 2015. Co-written with New York Times bestselling author Jeff Rovin. A Vision of Fire, the first in the series, came out in October 2014.
American Gods is a FremantleMedia production, with Bryan Fuller (soon to be of Star Trek on CBS) and Michael Green (Heroes) set as showrunners, with David Slade in place to direct the first episode.
