Sony Pictures and Escape Artists have tapped Christopher Yost, screenwriter of Thor: Ragnarok, to rewrite its reboot of Masters of the Universe.

The story, based on the comic currently published by DC Comics, is set on the planet Eternia and follows a warrior named Prince Adam, who happens to have the power to transform into He-Man. The famed villain Skeletor, who “seeks to conquer a fortress known as Castle Grayskull,” is He-Man’s nemesis.

Before Yost joined the project, previous drafts of the film were written by Terry Rossio and Jeff Wadlow. Escape Artists’ principals Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will be producing.

Yost has a history with Marvel, writing a number of animated shows before contributing to the recent live-action Thor franchise. After contributing to the first Thor film, he provided his first polished script for Thor: the Dark World, impressing Marvel so much that they tapped him to co-write Thor: Ragnarok with Craig Kyle.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is a Filmation/Mattel cartoon that ran from 1983-85. This cartoon spawned an earlier film starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella, which became a cult hit.
