The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is about to get a reboot from 20th Century Fox.

A report in The Tracking Board has the studio reviving plans to produce a new adaptation of the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill. Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly are overseeing the project for the studio. This comes after the 2003 feature film starring Sean Connery, followed by a failed attempt to reboot the story on television in 2013. The Fox television network made a put pilot commitment on a show that would have had Green Lantern scribe Michael Green as showrunner and Erwin Stoff as producer, but the show was not ordered to series.

The series of graphic novels were published by DC Comics imprint Wildstorm, and they follow literary icons in global adventures. The first book centers on Alan Quatermain, Mina Harker, Captain Nemo, Dorian Gray, invisible man Rodney Skinner (not the Invisible Man because of rights issues), and Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. The film added U.S. Secret Service agent Tom Sawyer. Recruited by a mysterious British government official known only as “M”. The group teams up to use their skills to save the world from an evil madman.

In addition to Connery, the film starred Peta Wilson (La Femme Nikita), Tony Curran (Defiance), Stuart Townsend, and Shane West. Connery retired from acting shortly after this film, and director Stephen Norrington cited this project in announcing he would never direct another movie again.

Moore is notorious for being against adaptations of his work, and neither he nor O’Neill have been involved in the adaptations.
