Fox Orders Pilot For X-Files Like Comedy, GHOSTED

Move over Scully and Mulder: there’s a new team in town. Fox has formally ordered the pilot for Ghosted from Craig Robinson and Adam Scott, who will both star and serve as executive producers.

The single-camera show is described as The X-Files as a comedy. The Bureau Underground recruits a cynical skeptic (Robinson) and a genius “true believer” of the paranormal (Scott) to investigate the rampant “unexplained” activities in Los Angeles, only to discover a larger mystery that could threaten the existence of mankind.

Joining the executive producer team are Naomi Scott, Olby Obst, Mark Schulman, Tom Gormican, who wrote the pilot, and Kevin Etten, who will also serve as the showrunner.

This is one of five pilots Fox has picked up for the 2017-2018 season. Ghosted will join the high-concept comedy Linda From HR, Liz Meriwether’s female-driven Antarctica project, Thin Ice, the hour long fantasy adaptation of Justin Cronin’s The Passage, and an unnamed X-Men pilot from Matt Nix and Bryan Singer.

Ghosted adds to Fox’s X-Files branding, which could draw in the shows super fans, even if it is not directly related to The X-Files. Earlier in 2016, Fox ran six episodes and, even though the show has not been renewed for more, Fox execs and the cast have teased another return of the series. If so, Ghosted is perfectly time to lead into another installment of The X-Files.

If Ghosted is picked up for the season, it will be Scott’s return to broadcast comedy following his role on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. Recently he just reunited with his boss costar, Mike Schur, on The Good Place and is set to star in HBO’s upcoming miniseries Big Little Lies.

Robinson also recently returned to television after his starring role as Darryl Philbin on The Office with an important role on Mr. Robot, his annual appearance on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and a hosting gig on Caraoke Showdown.

Plus, both can be seen together in 2015’s Hot Tub Time Machine 2.
