Fox Officially Adds THE EXORCIST to Fall Schedule

BANNER_News2013

Along with returning recording-industry drama Empire, Fox’s fall schedule will have two dramas inspired by popular movies, Lethal Weapon and  The Exorcist.

The Exorcist stars Sense8 actor Alfonso Herrera as a Father Ortega, pastor of a small Chicago parish with Ben Daniels as a Vatican “Knights Templar” style operative. Both must work together against an apparent case of demonic infestation afflicting the Rance family in Father Ortega’s small Chicago parish. Oscar winner Geena Davis is Angela Rance with Alan Ruck as her husband Henry. Davis’ casting was announced in March (see our article about it here).

The Hollywood Reporter describes The Exorcist as a “serialized psychological thriller”, while the Fox press release calls Father Ortega “the new face of the Catholic Church: progressive…and compassionate.”

So The Exorcist appears to be a bit different from other recent television series adapted from popular horror movies. Unlike the A&E programs Bates Motel (prequel to Psycho) or Damien (sequel to The Omen), Fox’s Exorcist doesn’t imagine the “before” or “after” movie events. The Exorcist looks like a  drama set in “The Exorcist Universe”, transplanting of the original movies’ basic premise of demonic possession to a modern setting.
