Former Princess Leia Carrie Fisher to Grace Star Wars Celebration VI
Actress, screenwriter and novelist Carrie Fisher, the daughter of two Hollywood legends and a pop culture icon in her own right for her portrayal of Princess Leia in George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy (that’s films IV, V and VI to you younglings!), is set to appear as a Spotlight Guest at Star Wars Celebration VI during the weekend of August 23-26, 2012.
Fisher’s amazing career outside of the Star Wars universe has included roles in a long list of successful films such as Shampoo, Hannah and Her Sisters, When Harry Met Sally, Scream 3 and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
She may have first achieved acting fame in her twenties as a galactic princess in jeopardy, but these days Fisher is better known for her singular wit and scathingly blunt appraisal of her personal misadventures in Tinseltown.
The bestselling author of Postcards From the Edge, Surrender the Pink, and Delusions of Grandma, Fisher is much sought-after Hollywood screenwriter and script doctor, and has recently expanded her horizons even more by presenting her own award-winning one-woman show on Broadway.
In addition, it has been announced that this October Fisher will be making to make her voice acting debut in the upcoming supernatural revenge video game “Dishonored,” from Arkane Studios.

The outspoken Fisher has also never shied away from discussing her former illicit drug use or her lifelong struggles with bi-polar disorder. For the latter condition she has undergone electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) over the years with marked success, although with an unfortunate side effect of some memory loss.
During a 2005 interview with Terry Gross, host of NPR’s Fresh Air, Fisher admitted that despite any changes in memory that may have occurred due to her treatments, she seems to still have much of her stilted dialogue as Princess Leia indelibly ingrained on her memory.

“I know the lines still because I had to memorize them. It’s the whole speech (‘I have placed information vital to survival of the rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit…’). I still know it, that’s what so tragic. What if I get senile and that is all the stuff I say while drooling?”
“‘Years ago you served my father in the clone wars’ … that’ll be my next book,” Fisher laughed. “Me as an old woman…having the orderlies in the old folks home just having me say Star Wars dialogue and bringing in their friends.”
Fisher will be greeting fans and signing autographs in the Celebration autograph hall at the Orange County Convention Center and is scheduled to appear on stage on Saturday, August 25 for an interview and a question and answer session with Celebration host James Arnold Taylor.
