First Trailer for LOCKE & KEY Released
Netflix has released the first official trailer for season one of Locke & Key, adapted from the comic book series by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodríguez.
Locke & Key involves a magic house known as Keyhouse, built by Benjamin Locke during the American Revolution. The keys act as seals to prevent demons from entering into the real world. The house also is covered by a spell that causes anyone over eighteen to forget about the magic of the house. Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode Locke move into the house with their mother after the murder of their father, and they begin to uncover the secrets of the house.

The entire story is told in three acts consisting of two storylines. The first miniseries, “Welcome to Lovecraft”, was published in six issues by IDW Publishing in 2008. “Head Games”, the second arc of Act One, was released in 2009. Act Two is covered in “Crown of Shadows” (2009) followed by “Keys to the Kingdom” in August 2010. Act Three was told through “Time & Tide” (retitled “Clockworks”) with the conclusion in “Alpha & Omega”.
This is the fourth attempt to adapt the comic series for filmed media. Universal Pictures had plans for a three movie adaptation headed by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Bobby Cohen, and Ted Adams. After a year, Joe Hill confirmed that the trilogy was no longer happening, but that he was writing a pilot for a television adaptation.
The TV series plans began with Dimension Films acquiring the rights, with Kurtzman and Orci again on board to produce. After Steven Spielberg got involved with the project, plans changed from film to television. Fox greenlit a pilot with Miranda Otto, Sarah Bolger, and Nick Stahl, but though it received positive reactions at Comic-Con International in San Diego in 2011, the series was not picked up by Fox.
The next attempt was at Hulu, with Carlton Cuse, Scott Derrickson, and Lindsey Springer producing. But by March 2018, Hulu had passed on the project, and it eventually landed at Netflix. With the exception of Jackson Robert Scott (Bode Locke), the entire cast was replaced for the new production.
The series will debut on Netflix February 7th.
