E3 Recap: Bethesda

Bethesda’s 2019 E3 press conference was full of jokes, curse words, and announcements. From Doom to all the new IP, here is SciFi4Me’s recap of Bethesda’s press conference.

Elder Scrolls Blades

Big updates are coming to Elder Scrolls Blades. Bethesda did not reveal much of anything, but they did announce the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, for free, Fall 2019.

Fallout 76

Todd Howard owned the rough launch of Fallout 76. Both Howard and Pete Hines thanked fans for sticking with the game and making the community one of the best in online gaming. Then they showed us the “Wastelanders” update, which has a new storyline that sees human NPC’s coming back. Since Vault 76 opened, the vault dwellers have started to rebuild civilization, which is causing people to return to the area. There will be full dialogue trees, choices, consequences, new weapons and new monsters.

Bethesda also announced “Nuclear Winter,” Fallout 76‘s new 52-player battle royale mode. It’s Fallout and battle royale; you can probably imagine how weird and crazy that will be. If you can’t, their other big Fallout 76 announcement will help you.

Bethesda is giving players a free trial of Fallout 76 from June 10 through 17. You will be able to play “Nuclear Winter” and give feedback as well as try out the rest of what Fallout 76 has to offer.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Bethesda announced a brand new IP developed by Tango Gameworks. Ghostwire: Tokyo is not the traditional Tango game. While it is “spooky,” the game will primarily be an action adventure game. The game takes place in Tokyo, and people are mysteriously disappearing. It is the player’s job to ask what is normal and what is paranormal and to figure out what is happening. The cinematic trailer had ghosts, a cool looking protagonist, but no release date.

Elder Scrolls Online

More DLC is coming to Elder Scrolls Online. A new trailer for the “Elsweyr” expansion made a premier, featuring the famous Dragon Guard. Mike Firor, ZeniMax Online Studios, also told fans that they have added more servers for all the ESO players and a new dungeon DLC “Scalebreaker” is coming.

Rage 2 Expansion

There will be more craziness added to the world of Rage 2, if that is even possible. The “Rise of the Ghosts” expansion will add new cheat codes, a new drivable mech suit, a new motorcycle, new story and of course new guns. Bethesda did not give a release date for the expansion.

Wolfenstein

There were two major Wolfenstein announcements during Bethesda’s press conference.

The first announcement is for a Wolfenstein VR game called Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot. You will take control of Nazi machinery and use it to kill Nazis in VR.

The next big announcement was for Wolfenstein: Youngblood. For the first time in Wolfenstein, you have the option to play alone or in co-op. The story takes place 20 years after the events of Wolfenstein: The New Colossus and BJ is stuck in Nazi-occupied Paris. You play as one of BJ Blaskowicz’s twin daughters as you (and maybe a friend) try to break him out.

You won’t have to wait long to get your fill of Nazi blood, because both games are out July 26.

Deathloop

The next new IP Bethesda announced is called Deathloop, and it’s competing with Cyberpunk 2077 for fan excitement.

RELATED – E3 Recap: Xbox

Not much info is available for the game, but the cinematic trailer was one of the most exciting parts of the show. The game takes place in a prison or heaven, depending on who you ask. The story is heavily player driven and features two black lead characters. Do yourself a favor and watch the trailer; it is worth it.

Orion

This announcement is a direct response to Stadia and project xCloud. Orion is Bethesda’s new streaming technology that takes less bandwidth, is more cost effective, and allows you to stream games at max settings as if you were playing at home on your console. They even had a demo on stage. They showed Doom gameplay on a smartphone running 4k visuals, 60fps, and no latency.

One of the biggest concerns for the streaming future of video games is how bad the latency will be. In their demo, there was none. Even Google can’t say their on-stage demo was latency free. Orion is exciting technology, and Bethesda did a better job talking about it than Microsoft and Google have talked about their own streaming technology.

Doom Eternal

Lots of gameplay of Doom Eternal was shown, and it looks as hellish and fun as ever. In Doom Eternal, you will be going to different dimensions in order to save Earth, which is being overtaken by demons. Id Software confirmed you will go to Hell, Heaven and more. The lucky fans that were at Bethesda’s conference and those at E3 have the chance to play the game this week. All of us are jealous.

Id also announced a new game mode called “Battlemode.” This new mode puts one Doom Slayer against 2 demons in a blood-filled multiplayer experience.

The release date for Doom Eternal was revealed to be November 22. Not only that, but a collectors edition was announced for the game. Arguably the most exciting part of the collector’s edition is probably the Doom Slayer helmet.

There was a lot to get excited about at the Bethesda press conference, although nobody was as excited as the one dude yelling the entire time. There’s much more E3 excitement to go, and SciFi4Me has got it covered.

Zandt Durham

I love video games, my cats, and my fianceé (not necessarily in that order). Here to report on, review, and play some games. I main Ganondorf in Smash Ultimate.
