Drea de Matteo Will Vex the AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
_______________
Marvel has announced the casting of Emmy-winning actress Drea De Matteo as a new villain on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She’ll play Karla Faye Gideon, described as “a Gifted woman with a grudge to bear against S.H.I.E.L.D. who joins forces with Skye’s father, Cal.” Note the capitalization of the word “Gifted” — possibly a reference to the Inhumans?
“We’re thrilled to have Drea join us as yet another great villain to challenge our cast,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We relished the opportunity to work with her in such a menacing role.”
Matteo earned an Emmy for her role as Adriana La Cerva in The Sopranos, and since then has starred in series such as Sons of Anarchy and Desperate Housewives.
Gideon first appeared as a supporting character for Daredevil during the 2005 Daredevil: Redemption series by David Hine and Michael Gaydos, after the death of her young son Bradley. Years later, she was a victim of domestic abuse, saved by Daredevil. Her appearance on MAOS will line up with the premiere of Daredevil on Netflix, so could this character be a connective thread between the two shows?
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC on Tuesday, March 3, after the completion of the freshman season of Agent Carter. Our team here discusses both shows — and the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe — on the Level Eleventy-Seven podcast.
