All bets are in and the new director for Deadpool 2 has been chosen. A month after Tim Miller left the project due to creative differences with star and producer, Ryan Reynolds, David Leitch has signed on to replace him.

It has been reported that he beat out Rupert Sanders, Drew Goddard and Magnus Martens as well as a fan-driven petition for Quinten Tarantino.

Leitch’s past experience will add to the movie since it is part action, part comedy. He started as an actor, stuntman, and stunt coordinator on various block buster hits. 2003’s In Hell was the beginning of his directing career as a second unit director. A decade later, he directed 2014’s Keanu Reeves’ John Wick and next year’s adaptation of the graphic novel, The Coldest City with Charlize Theron. Deadpool 2 will be the biggest project of his career so far.

Leitch will be joining writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, producer Simon Kinberg as well as Reynolds for the creative team. This addition to the team provides insight on how they want to balance out all aspects of the film. They have the comedy down pat, Miller worked his visual effects wizardry, and now with Leitch, fans can almost guarantee some amazing action sequences.

No plot details have been announced yet for the sequel, simply that the story will see Merc with the Mouth cross paths with Cable and Domino. Filming is expected to start in 2017 with a release date sometime in 2018.
