CONSTANTINE’s Fate to be Decided in May

_______________

Now that the initial thirteen episode run is complete, fans of Constantine are already buzzing about whether or not the show will be cancelled. Or if not cancelled, moved to Syfy and re-branded as Hellblazer.

Rumors aside, here’s what showrunner Daniel Cerone had to say on Twitter:

Cerone noted that NBC executives were with him while watching the finale episode, and he says NBC suits are fans of the show, but it comes down to dollars and cents. The network has to see that the show has potential to generate revenue — advertising dollars, streaming purchases, rentals, home video sales, etc. — so that becomes the focus for now.

NBC also doesn’t have to be the only option.

As to the rumor that the show could move to Syfy, Matt Mitovich at TVLine says he followed that rumor back down the rabbit hole and can find nothing to support the possibility at this time.

Foreign sales and viewership also seems to be having an impact as well:

One interesting side note: Cerone also mentioned that at some point the studio just stopped sending “no smoking” notes to the production, speculating that maybe they were finally worn down enough. Certainly as the show progressed, there were more instances of Constantine smoking, which is a big part of the character.

So, for now, Constantine remains in limbo. Something we’ll be discussing on the next Rogues Gallery.

Stay tuned.
