Clare Kramer Takes Us to Geek Nation

At Planet Comicon 2013, we caught up with Clare Kramer (Buffy the Vamprie Slayer), and our Annaleigh Josephs got a quick minute to chat about her new projects — including the web site GeekNation, launched last year. Clare hosts Take Five with Clare Kramer, one of the many videos available on GN.

AJ: We are at Planet Comicon Kansas City 2013. We are here with the gorgeous Clare Kramer. Just kind of wanted to talk to you about a couple of things. First off, welcome to Kansas City. How’s things so far?

CLARE KRAMER: Oh, my gosh, thank you so much. I honestly am having the best weekend. I have not been to Kansas City before. It’s so hospitable. Everyone’s so sweet. The convention is amazing. The food here, the barbecue, obviously, has been really good. So, I’ve just been living it up.

AJ: Most people know you from a couple of earlier things in your career — definitely as Glory in Buffym some in Bring It On, which was my first experience with you. And now you’re doing something – what was it? Sundance that you had taken –

CK: Yes well actually I have a film at South by Southwest that premiered this year, called Big Ass Spider, where – it stars Greg Grunberg and myself. It’s a comedy… it’s a scary comedy, you know, but it’s kind of like in the vein of Ghostbusters meets Cloverfield.  So, that’ll be out in the theaters in the fall. And then I have a movie coming out, called The Lost Tree, which is a psychological thriller, which should be out in early January of 2014. And then, of course, I don’t know if you guys know, but I launched a web site last year – GeekNation.com, that’s kind of been where my attention has been lately.

AJ: And definitely, tell us about GeekNation.com. Obviously, this is kind of the perfect platform for it, is a convention hall full of geeks.

CK: Well, I mean, it’s really cool. We view “geek” as… the meaning of “geek” to be someone who’s passionate about anything, so whether you’re a television geek, a film geek… you know, a sports geek. Obviously, we don’t exclude sci fi or, you know, any of the genre stuff. But it’s just… it’s a great place, a destination site. There’s daily blogs and articles. There’s about ten podcasts and a lot of video shows.  So, we like to think of it as the Huffington Post for geeks.

AJ: Thank you so much for your time. We don’t want to tie you up too much, but is there anything else that you maybe think we should all be looking out for, that maybe some projects coming up, or a big thing on your Web site?

CK: You know what? I have a couple things in the works that I can’t contractually say yet. So just… I would say check — you know, I hope everybody checks out GeekNation, and of course, you can find updates on me there as well. And I’m excited to check out your site. It looks really cool.

AJ: Well, we think it is. We definitely appreciate your time. Thank you so much. Do you think you’ll be back in Kansas City next year, if you get asked?

CK: I hope so. I’ve had a great time.
