Good news, Outlander fans! Our time traveling adventures aren’t anywhere close to finished yet!

That’s right, as of yesterday, the Starz network announced that it has renewed Outlander for another two seasons. Titled “Book Three” and “Book Four”, these new chapters of the historical romance/adventure saga will follow the plot of writer Diana Gabaldon’s Voyager and Drums of Autumn, respectively the third and fourth books of her wildly popular Outlander series.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht lauded the show, “Outlander is like nothing seen before on television. From its depiction of a truly powerful female lead character, to the devastating decimation of the Highlander way of life, to what is a rarely seen genuine and timeless love story, it is a show that not only transports the viewer, but inspires the passion and admiration of its fans. On this 25th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the U.S., we are thrilled and honored to be able to continue the story that began with author Diana Gabaldon, and is brought to life by the incredibly talented Ronald D. Moore. There are no better storytellers for Outlander than this team, both in front and behind the camera.”

The series is currently produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining and Supply Company, and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, Presidents of U.S. Programming and Production at Sony, weighed in, saying, “The world of Jamie and Claire is expansive and emotionally complex. The audience has rewarded Outlander with their praise and loyalty, and we know we will deliver the best seasons yet in the years ahead.”

Showrunner Ronald D. Moore will have plenty of material to draw from in his continuing work. The Outlander book series spans eight novels, each one thick enough to stop a freight train if you smacked it in the right place. And each of those books has had its day on the New York Times Best-seller list.

Outside of the literary world, Outlander has already made quite a splash on the small screen. In a season and a half, it has garnered three Golden Globe® nominations and a host of other awards. The current season is a “top two rated show across all of cable among women 18+” according to Starz and Nielsen Npower and it currently sits in the weekly Top 5 Daily Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings. It has also inspired many a gif-filled rant from yours truly.

So what does all this mean for Outlander fans? Apparently, it means several more delightful years of knitwear porn, hating on Black Jack Randall, and heart attacks over the welfare of our beloved Fraser fam. It also means I need to start stocking up on strong adult beverages as soon as possible.
