Book Month Flashback: David Weber and the Honorverse

This month on Live From the Bunker, we’ve got a little theme going on. For those of you who missed it, “Book Month” is now in play. Almost every night is booked with someone who’s involved in the creation of science fiction and fantasy books. Authors, editors, and even a narrator who does the audiobook adaptations.

As part of that, and just because I haven’t read them in a while, I picked up the Honor Harrington books again, reading them from On Basilisk Station forward, just because they’re extremely good books, and I’m one of those people who won’t get tired of reading a book more than once. And especially after getting the first issue of the Honorverse comic book, it’s been on my mind of late.

Back in 2011 at Osfest 4.0, I got a chance to sit down with David Weber to talk about Honor Harrington and the popularity of the books. What I’d planned to be a quick fifteen minute interview turned into a forty-five minute conversation about all sorts of topics, ranging from character deaths to politics to derailed plot plans and everything in between. Hearing the story of Honor’s development (and subsequent non-demise) was time well spent, and there are interesting bits along the way that will only enhance your enjoyment of the books.

Which you should read, of course.

Part I – A Man Of Honor

Part II – Honor in Politics

Part III – Honor in Hollywood

And don’t forget to tune in to Live From the Bunker every Monday through Thursday 10:30-11p Central. You can also watch a live simulcast of the show over on Livestream.

  • David Webers, Honor Harrington Series is at the top of my favorites list. To be honest I enjoy and have re-read almost everything he has written.
