Astronaut Scott Kelly Biopic in the Works

The Tracking Board reports that Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to astronaut Scott Kelly’s memoir, Endurance: My Year in Space.
The book, co-written with Margaret Lazarus Dean, details Kelly’s record 382 days in space, the most for any American astronaut. That includes his 340 consecutive days on board the International Space Station, where he commanded Expeditions 26, 45, and 46. Over the course of his entire career at NASA, he has spent 520 days in space.
Pascal Pictures will produce, with former Sony prex Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor producing. Elizabeth Cantillon will also be on board as producer for The Cantillon Company. Kelly and his twin brother Mark, also an astronaut, will also be part of the project as producers.
Kelly has served in the United States Navy and began his career at NASA as pilot for the space shuttle Discovery on mission STS-103 in December 1999. He and his brother are the only siblings to travel in space.
Kelly set the record for total accumulated days in space in October 2015. He and cosmonaut Mikhail Korniyenko were selected for a special year-long mission on the ISS, which commenced March 27, 2015 at the beginning of Expedition 43 and going through Expeditions 44 and 45, which Kelly commanded. Kelly returned to Earth March 1, 2016, after passing command to Timothy Kopra. Kelly retired from the space program in April 2016.
The book covers Kelly’s career at NASA along with other details of his Navy and engineering experience, and is set to be published by Knopf in November 2017.
