Andrea Riseborough is currently in negotiations with Relativity Studios to star as the villain in the upcoming reboot of The Crow.

The film will be directed by Corin Hardy, who directed the well-received Irish thriller The Hallows, and produced by Edward R. Pressman.

With a strong cult following, The Crow is the story of Draven, who returns from the dead to mete out vengeance for himself and his girlfriend after they are both killed in an attack. The villain responsible, Top Dollar, will be played by Riseborough in a departure from the graphic novel, in which Top Dollar is male.

Riseborough has appeared in many acclaimed motion pictures alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest stars including Tom Cruise in Oblivion. She won the Royal Television Society Award and The Broadcasting Press Guild for her role in The Devil’s Whore. In 2007 she won the Ian Charleson Award for her performances as Isabella in Measure For Measure and as the title character in Miss Julie, both directed by Sir Peter Hall. She appeared most recently as Laura in The Bird Man.

Based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr, The Crow became a film in 1994 starring Brandon Lee, son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, with Top Dollar being portrayed by Michael Wincott. Lee was accidentally killed on set during production.

The new film is currently slated for a 2016 Christmas release.
