AMERICAN HORROR STORY Gets Three More Seasons
FX has announced three more seasons of American Horror Story, which will put the anthology series on the air for at least thirteen seasons.
The just aired ninth season, “1984”, ran for nine episodes and was set at a campground that turned into a killing field, paying homage to the slasher films of the eighties. Season ten will air on the network later this year.
Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, AHS explores a different setting each season, with various actors returning each season to play different roles based on the theme for that particular season. The theme for season ten has not yet been revealed, although Murphy has teased a return of some “fan favorite” actors and perhaps a visit from aliens, telling Deadline last year, “I think at the heart of it, it’s always about Americana.”
John Landgraf, Chairman of FX Networks and FX Productions, made announcement during the Television Critics Association winter press event.
“Ryan and Brad are the undisputed masters of horror TV, having created the anthological limited series with American Horror Story and sustaining its success for nearly a decade as FX’s highest-rated series,” said Landgraf. “We are grateful to them and Dana Walden and our studio partners for committing to another three years. AHS has showcased a wealth of award winning actors since day one and we appreciate the contributions of everyone, including Ryan, Brad and fellow executive producers Tim Minear, James Wong, Alexis Martin Woodall and Bradley Buecker, the writers, directors, cast and crew for each new, unforgettable installment of American Horror Story.”
The series has so far been nominated for ninety-five Emmy Awards, winning sixteen since the first season in 2011. The second season, “Asylum”, won a TV Program of the Year award from the American Film Institute in 2012, and the show has received nine Golden Globe nominations and two Writers Guild awards.
