Actor David Collings Dead at 79
Actor and voice artist David Collings has passed away suddenly the morning of March 23.
Collings’ wife, Karen Archer, posted the news on Twitter:
I don’t if this is the right time, maybe no such thing anymore, but I feel I should share the news, for those who knew him, that our dear David Collings, actor, husband, father, died suddenly in the early hours of this morning. Perhaps we can celebrate him properly next year …

Archer would then post this reaction to the outpouring of condolences she received:
I just have to say, #DavidCollings didn’t even have a computer, let alone know what #Twitter was, and would have hated me posting – it was just to pass on information to, I thought, a couple of folk who might pick up. He would have been stunned at touched at all the kindness

Collings was a stage and film/TV actor as well as a voice artist. His career breakthrough came with a role as Raskolnikov is Crime & Punishment in 1964. His genre credits include “Revenge of the Cybermen”, “The Robots of Death”, and “Mawdryn Undead” on Doctor Who, as well as the Big Finish audio production Full Fathom Five. He also played Legolas in the BBC Radio 4 adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, and Bob Cratchit in the 1970 musical film Scrooge opposite Albert Finney.
Collings’ theater career includes work with the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, along with the Lincoln Center in New York. He also played Lord Dark and The Friendly Ghost on Dark Towers, which also featured Peter Mayhew as the Tall Knight. He also appeared on Blake’s 7 and Sapphire & Steel.
Collings is survived by his wife and three children.
