Back in June, I wrote that Lionsgate had acquired the UK distribution rights to the film version of the Olivier-nominated stage play Ghost Stories.

Well, earlier this month, the 2017 BFI London Film Festival announced the film was part of this year’s line up, offering up a first tantalizing image.

The movie stars Martin Freeman (Sherlock and the Hobbit trilogy), Alex Lawther (Black Mirror and the young Turing in The Imitation Game), Paul Whitehouse (voice work in The Corpse Bride and the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland) and Andy Nyman (who also starred in the stage production). Nyman also co-wrote and directed the movie with Jeremy Dyson (The League of Gentlemen).

The movie’s plot is kept tight under wraps, with the marketing in the same vein as the stage play of asking the audience to keep it to themselves. The story follows Dr. Goodman (Nyman), lecturing about ghost stories and the website scienceofghosts.com. There are three interviews with people who’ve had supernatural experiences.

The movie premiers October 5 at Leicester Square Cinema and has three showings at the BFI London Film Festival. There is no word when the movie will premiere in the US. For more information about this screening, visit the listing on their website.
