David Ayer’s love of Twitter has benefited Suicide Squad fans greatly. Since the project’s confirmation, Ayer has frequently posted updates to his social media feed to show fans the film’s progression.
After weeks of teasing what The Joker may potentially look like and showing the progression of Jared Leto’s transformation into the role, Ayer has posted the first official photo of Leto’s Joker.

Though it was initially speculated by some that Leto’s Joker may closely resemble the iteration we see in DC’s New 52 comics, it appears that Ayer’s artistic choices resemble an entirely new look. With tattoos and what appears to be amalgam teeth, Leto’s Joker is already taking on a life of its own.
Weeks ago, Ayer posted a tweet of Leto with a camera. The pose appeared to be an homage to The Killing Joke, one of the most celebrated and controversial of all Joker storylines.

The Joker has previously been portrayed in live action films and television by Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, and Health Ledger, who posthumously won an Academy Award for his performance in The Dark Knight.
Suicide Squad is slated for theatrical release on August 5, 2016.
