NEW MOVIE INFO
Ant Man now officially has a release date! Disney sent out a press release on this and the other films in Marvel’s Phase Two. The long-awaited Edgar Wright project will drop into theaters November 6, 2015. Which gives Nathan Fillion time to get back in shape for the role, right?
Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World will both be available in 3D. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the official title of the sequel.
Just announced at New York Comic Con, the first official member of the cast of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. television show is… Clark Gregg! That’s right. Agent Phil Coulson will be a part of the new show, which means either the story takes place prior to the events in The Avengers, or we have a Life Model Decoy in play somewhere.
Gregg mentions in his Twitter account, that he knew for about a week prior to the NYCC announcement. Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb made the announcement, saying this had always been part of the plan as it concerns everyone’s favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
Kevin Feige says, “There was never going to be a ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ show without Agent Phil Coulson!”
Although director Joss Whedon says, “We all love Clark Gregg, there’s no doubt about that,” Whedon said. “From before we made The Avengers, we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death. … The fact of the matter is, as much as we love him, now that I’m really running Marvel, I like to keep a type of artistic integrity, which means we don’t stretch the bounds of reality.”
Wait. Did Joss Whedon just say he’s “really running Marvel”??
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE TO S.M.A.S.H.
The Avengers are assembling again, too. In animated form. NYCC was the forum for the announcement that Avengers Assemble and the new Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. will make their debut on Disney XD in the summer of 2013.
The new show, which replaces the very popular Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, is more in line with the movie, with the cast of the film joined by the Falcon.
Adrian Pasdar returns as Iron Man, with Fred Tatasciore as Hulk, Roger Craig Smith as Captain America, Travis Willingham as Thor, Troy Baker as Hawkeye, Laura Bailey as Black Widow and Bumper Robinson as Falcon.
Tatasciore also plays the Hulk in the other show, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Along with Eliza Dushku as She-Hulk, Seth Green as A-Bomb and Clancy Brown as Red Hulk.
British actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are in consideration for the role of Carol Danvers, also known as Ms. Marvel (or the current Captain Marvel, for those keeping up). Director Joss Whedon has said the sequel would feature a different line-up, and having Danvers in the group would be consistent with the cosmic direction the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to head. Speaking of which…
Brian Micheal Bendis has been announced as the new writer for the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book. The guys over at Comic Book Resources aren’t too thrilled with it, to read their Twitter feed, but it makes a certain amount of sense that Marvel would put a high-profile writer on the title just as the movie goes into pre-production.
Will we finally see the Hulk on the small screen again? Guillermo Del Toro talked with Shock Till You Drop about his work on the new Frankenstein movie, and also gave an update on the Hulk project:
“Right now all I know is the official word I was given is that there’s a writer they want. They are very interested in me meeting with him. He’s very, very busy. The official word is we are holding, but I don’t know… After Avengers having the success it had, perhaps the fate of the project may change. Right now officially what I know – and I’m not hiding anything off the record or anything – is that we were told we were waiting for this writer, and we were going to do it with him.”
So, it’s in limbo. Still.
But the next Hulk movie? Kevin Feige says it could happen around 2015, and even mentioned a couple of story arcs that would be good material to adapt — Planet Hulk and World War Hulk, which Geeks of Doom speculates could be the lead-up to Avengers 3.
PHASE ONE BLU-RAY DELAY
Rlease of the collectible box set of the Phase One movies has been delayed indefinitely due to a lawsuit. Marvel and Disney are being sued by German luggage company Rimowa GmbH, which claims that Marvel never obtained a license to produce a replica of their signature style case, which was used to carry the tesseract in The Avengers. The case has been closely copied for the Blu-Ray set of the Phase One films, originally set to be released September 25th.
Variety is reporting that Shailene Woodley, star of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, may be in the running to play Mary Jane Watson in the next Spider-Man flick. Director Marc Webb is confirmed as returning to the franchise, and rumors have the villains being the Sinister Six.
